Just finished watching our town's Christmas parade on TV, if it hadn't have been for the 42 pageant winners our parade would have been over in 15 minutes. I mean there were so many Queen this or Princess that...it was kind of sad how much importance that was placed on beauty.
Guess they were getting them ready for the real world where beauty gets you in the door long before talent, skill, or achievements.
Who's the hardest person to shop for on your holiday list?
That's is a hard question...probably my Dad as it is always hard to know what he really wants. Of course the answer to that problem is a gift card to Lowe's.
In fact for the lazy...gift cards are a dream come true.
2. Samsung DVD-HD960 Up-Converting DVD Player
3. TiVo TCD648250B Series3 HD Digital Media Recorder
I chose the Samsung because DLP is a good technology even with bulb replacements every two or three years...it's like getting a new tv for a small price. Plus for the price of a rear projection DLP you can't beat it with a large screen LCD or Plasma.
Blu-Ray or HD-DVD...not even the experts can pick a winner here. So I don't want to be caught with a "Beta VCR" and have to purchase something else next year...so the immediate answer is a up converting DVD player.
Last is the TiVo...the series 3 is a beautiful machine. It has a 250 gb drive and can record up to 25 hours of HD. I was using a Moxi box from Charter. But it doesn't do nearly as good a job at recording SD as the Tivo and the Moxi only has a 80 gb HD. On top of that I did have a series 2 tivo with lifetime subscription so I transferred that to the series 3 and now I have no monthly fees.
The only additional fees is for the two cable cards for the tivo and that is only an extra 1.50 per card/month.
I'll post some pictures when I get it setup.
Just finished watching Koppel in Iran. If you have Discovery HD it really looks great.
Anyway, it's a very good look into the culture of the country and the diverse makeup of people.
It was interesting to see the difference in cities and how easy it is to broadly brush a country as evil, but see that for many of it's population, they are just trying to survive another day and could care less about the politics.
But for the ppl who do care about the government...those ppl are scary and unfortunately it will be smart for the USA to continue to monitor them very closely.
But not with console game systems. Yes the PS3 is coming out today, but what did I get from amazon today?
A xbox 360...not even my wife knows about it...until now. Yes honey we are proud parents of a xbox 360 and I'm out right now trying to find some games for it.
You see I sold my PSP and with that money I got a super good deal from some connections and now we get to experience a xbox.
One of the games I am going to purchase is Gears of War, but I won't play it until we get our new 61" Samsung HL-S6187W DLP tv.
So for those reading this, what games should I get? or which ones should I avoid.
Doug, you need to get one now so we can tagteam on Gears of War.
I like the fox on my new design...I will name him George and I will love him and hug him....
Home today with a cold, but it gives me time to tell you about what happened to Gerri and I last night.
Wed night, although I wasn’t feeling well, I went with Gerri to the library to work. It was around 6:00 pm and almost dark. I was driving and had just turned off of Cedar Lane and stopped at the stop sign at North Collins Street to turn right to go to the library (see map position one).
This is a three way stop with a stop sign to my left and one to the right. As I was about to make my right turn an old style SUV blew through the stop sign to my left. Luckily I was looking that way before pulling out or we would have hit him as he sped through the stop sign without even slowing down.
It surprised us and as he drove by I blew the horn at him, to let him know just how close he had come to being in an accident.
The SUV continued down N. Collins as we made our turn behind them. Gerri noticed that the SUV was turning into the parking lot at the old health department which is right across from the library (see position 2). Gerri calmly said “uh oh - road rage”. Sure enough a very tall lanky redneck got out of the SUV and proceeded to walking toward our car as we drove down the road. He was waiting for us in the middle of the road. It was dark and I couldn’t tell if he had a weapon in his hand or not but standing in the middle of the road with a 2,000 lb car coming at you isn’t something a sane person does.
Of course we didn’t turn into the library parking lot, but avoided him and continued down Collins St and then turned left to go up the hill toward the police station. We could see the SUV heading our way as the moron got back in his vehicle. As we approached the police station there is a one way street next to it and many ppl do not know about it, so I quickly turned right and backtracked to West Lincoln.
A very scary moment that surprised both of us.
We went back to the house and switched cars as we had to get to the library to do our work...and also to pick up one of our small arms a Ruger SP101 .357.
We made it back to the library and nothing else happened and we are very blessed that the incident didn’t turn out any worse than it did…
I apologized to Gerri because if I had not blew the horn at the insane driver, we would not have been in the potentially dangerous situation. This incident made me aware of a few things.
1. Something can happen to endanger your family when you least expect it.
2. No matter what - reacting to a stupid event with your own stupid
response doesn’t make things better - it can only make things worse.
3. Gerri and I both are trained and licensed to carry concealed,
but that night it was a short trip and neither of us was armed - be
prepared.
4. Do not stop to “reason” with ppl like this...the best decision
we made that night was to avoid him and drive away. Although we were
not armed really we were as the car we was driving is better than any
gun when the person is standing in the middle of the road.
5. Be prepared, know what you would do in that situation, before
it happens...having a game plan at home, work, or in town can one day
save your life or keep you from getting into a potentially dangerous
situation.
I need help in choose what to use for my home/start page.
Right now I am using netvibes and it works well most of the time with pulling in feeds and displaying pics from fickr tags that I have setup. But the interface is kindof blah to me.
I have also tried pageflakes and with their new interface it looks nice and once again the feeds work well.
Last but not least, is Google's home page. The biggest draw for them is that I use Google's gmail/Docs/Reader/Calendar. So using their homepage would make sense as their modules would work well. But of the three it's the ugliest in my opinion.
on Oh Glory !!!!
